In this edition of Behind the Build, we spotlight a factory that has quietly shaped China’s infrastructure and is now setting its sights overseas. Founded in 2009, Guangdong Zhongxun Communication Equipment Industrial Co., Ltd. has grown from a domestic supplier of cable protection systems into a precision-driven manufacturer with ambitions far beyond its borders.
We visited their production base in Huizhou’s Shiwang Technology Industrial Park and sat down with the leadership team to understand what makes the factory a trusted name in utility-grade plastics, and why now is the right moment to expand globally.
Inside the Workshop: From Domestic Foundation to Global Ambition
Established in August 2009, Guangdong Zhongxun Communication Equipment Industrial Co., Ltd. operates from a 15,904 m² site in Huizhou’s Shiwang Technology Industrial Park, with over 10,000 m² of space dedicated to injection molding and extrusion, and has a registered capital of RMB 283 million. The company’s headquarters is located in Guangzhou’s Innovation Corridor, which is a hub for manufacturing and engineering in southern China.
The factory operates with a team of 65 employees, including 5 senior engineers and 8 intermediate engineers. Over the years, the factory has supplied parts for projects led by State Grid Corporation, China Telecom, and China Railway Group.
While production has so far remained within China, the company is looking outward.
“We’re preparing to expand into overseas markets,” said the Perdu Liu, General Manager. “Our goal is to gradually grow through international trade, focusing on long-term, stable partnerships.”
Integrating Injection and Extrusion
The factory’s production combines two key processes: injection molding and extrusion. While many factories specialize in one or the other, Guangdong Zhongxun Communication Equipment Industrial runs both under the same roof. This allows them to even produce pipes and pipe fittings as part of a complete system.
The factory currently operates 14 injection molding machines, ranging from 80 to 480 tons, used to make parts like elbow joints and other fittings. These run alongside 140 extrusion machines. Some of the current frequent orders include plastic pipe fittings, daily-use plastic parts, and using extruders to produce pipes.
One Order That Speaks Volumes
The team shared a recent project that stood out for its scale and coordination. They were tasked with supplying Guangdong Power Grid with a batch of PVC cable protection components, including conduit elbows used in electrical distribution boxes.
The first shipment included around 200,000 pieces. The elbows were produced in-house using their injection molding lines, while complementary components were made using extrusion.
While production has so far remained within China, the company is looking outward.
“It wasn’t a complex design,” the general manager noted, “but the volumes required consistent output and tight process control.” , said Perdu Liu General Manager.
The order reflects the type of manufacturing their factory is built around: large batches, infrastructure applications, and close alignment between tooling, molding, and delivery timelines.
Investing in People and Process
At Guangdong Zhongxun Communication Equipment Industrial, all molds are designed and manufactured in-house. A delibirate choice that gives the factory full control over tolerances, maintenance, and ongoing improvements. This internal capability plays a central role in the factory’s ability to deliver consistent parts at scale.
This capability supports a broader approach to quality management. Before shipment, each product goes through:
-
Visual inspection for flash, color variation, and shrink marks
-
Dimensional checks against tolerance drawings
-
Functional testing for fit, strength, and seal integrity
-
Raw material verification
-
Packaging review, including quantity and labeling
These steps help ensure products are qualified at the point of shipment, reducing the risk of returns.
Talent is another area of investment. Of the 65 employees, over 40% hold a bachelor’s degree or higher, including five senior engineers and eight mid-level engineers. Guangdong Zhongxun Communication Equipment Industrial also partners with the National Key Laboratory at South China University of Technology to strengthen mold design, process control, and production methods.
To date, the company has:
-
Secured 52 authorized patents
-
Registered 14 software copyrights
-
Participated in drafting 3 national industry standards
Quality awareness is built into the culture. Ongoing training, regular assessments, and feedback loops support continuous improvement across departments.
What Sets Zhongxun Apart?
When asked what distinguishes their factory from other injection molding factories, the leadership pointed to a few consistent themes:
-
In-house mold design and manufacturing
-
Stable, repeatable control of injection parameters
-
Timely delivery supported by internal planning systems
-
End-to-end capabilities, from tooling to final part
“We don’t just deliver parts — we design the molds, control the process, and manage the timeline ourselves,” Perdu Liu, the General Manager explained. “That gives us more flexibility and accountability across each order".
Their client base, including State Grid, China Telecom, and China Railway, reflects that trust.
Why Now? Going Global with Confidence
The company has not yet entered the export market. But after more than a decade of serving China’s domestic infrastructure sector, the team is preparing to expand abroad.
“Our goal is to grow through international trade,” said Perdu Liu the General Manager. “We plan for exports to make up 30% of total output over the next few years.”
Internal systems have already been adjusted to support international buyers, with a focus on countries that offer long-term political stability. The factory has fluent English-speaking employees that are ready to serve inquires. Through platforms like Haizol, the company hopes to connect with global sourcing teams seeking high-volume, reliable plastic components.
Advice for Overseas Buyers
When asked what overseas buyers should prioritize when evaluating a supplier, their leadership team offered a simple but structured answer:
Producing high-quality injection molded parts depends on the synergy of five core elements:
-
A high-precision, well-designed mold as the foundation
-
Scientific control of injection process parameters as the key
-
Pure and stable raw materials as the prerequisite
-
Reliable and well-maintained equipment as the safeguard
-
Skilled and responsible operators as the final quality gate
To summarize in one sentence:
“Mold is the foundation, process is the key, raw material is the prerequisite, equipment is the safeguard, and personnel are the ultimate factor for quality assurance.”
Closing Reflections
Guangdong Zhongxun Communication Equipment Industrial approach hasn’t been about moving the quickest. It’s been about getting things right. From its foundations in domestic infrastructure to its preparations for global trade, the company has focused on building capabilities that last.
