What Is Centrifugal Casting?
Centrifugal casting uses high-speed rotation to force molten metal outward against a cylindrical mold. What’s the end result? Dense, uniform castings. Often free from both porosity and inclusions.
However, the process differs from other casting methods. First, it starts with pouring molten metal into a spinning mold. As the mold rotates and centrifugal force drives the molten metal outwards. It forms a dense and uniform layer along the inner wall. Impurities are forced toward the center, which helps to keep the final part clean and defect-free.
Centrifugal casting is ideal for producing rotationally symmetric parts. For example, pipes, bushings, bearing sleeves, and gear blanks.
