Designed as an end-of-line protective component for fluid pipelines or ventilation systems, this disc-shaped structure integrates a central threaded interface with a large-area metal mesh filtration layer. The outer ring is overmolded with thermoplastic to provide a sealing surface and torque support for tightening. A precision stainless steel wire mesh is embedded internally to effectively intercept impurities while ensuring smooth media flow. It is commonly used in automotive fuel systems, chemical pump and valve inlets, or pneumatic component suction ends.
The core challenges in manufacturing these insert-molded parts lie in controlling the bonding strength between the metal mesh and the plastic substrate, as well as maintaining concentricity. Precise positioning of the metal mesh within the mold is essential to prevent deformation or displacement caused by high-pressure injection molding, while also preventing plastic flash from clogging the mesh pores and compromising filtration efficiency. The central thread profile must remain regular and burr-free to ensure proper sealing with mating components and resistance to pull-out forces. Strict control of overall flatness is also maintained to prevent installation leaks.
